- Monthly magazines like Vision IAS (PT365) or Drishti IAS are excellent for consolidating and revising current affairs, but they are rarely sufficient as a standalone resource. While they provide a structured "safety net" of facts, they work best when used to supplement daily newspaper reading rather than replace it.
- For the Prelims, publications like PT365 are highly effective because they categorise year-long news into factual, easy-to-digest points. They are perfect for objective recall and eliminating options. However, for the Mains, these magazines can sometimes feel like a collection of "highlights." They provide data and keywords, but they may lack the analytical depth and evolving context required to write nuanced, long-form answers.
- Relying solely on magazines misses the benefits of reading The Hindu or The Indian Express. Daily reading builds your analytical ability and critical thinking, which are essential for the Mains and the Interview. Repeated exposure to an issue through editorials also ensures better long-term retention than attempting to "cram" a 100-page magazine at the end of the month.
- The most effective hybrid strategy involves spending 45–60 minutes daily on a newspaper to understand core arguments without making exhaustive notes. You should then use a monthly magazine to fill gaps and consolidate those topics into syllabus-aligned themes. Finally, use specialised booklets like PT365 or Mains 365 for intensive revision before the exams. This approach gives you the depth of a newspaper and the organisation of a magazine.
