Even in companies with a healthy work environment, some negative behaviour can slip through. To uphold the inherent dignity and worth of every employee, following proactive measures can be taken:
- Grievance Redressal Mechanisms: Companies implementing confidential and efficient grievance redressal systems for employees to report harassment or discrimination. Recently, Uber overhauled its internal reporting system for harassment complaints to create a more supportive environment for employees.
- Culture of Open Communication and Feedback: Creating platforms for employees to voice concerns or offer feedback without fear of retribution. Companies like Microsoft have encouraged open discussions and feedback mechanisms through internal forums and regular feedback sessions.
- Robust Anti-Discrimination Policies: Introduction of inclusive policies addressing discrimination based on gender, race, or sexual orientation. For instance, tech companies like Google and Facebook have updated their policies to create more inclusive work environments for employees from diverse backgrounds.
Thus, the above measures would deal comprehensively with the negative work environment creating 'coercion' and 'undue influence' and would create a work environment that upholds the inherent dignity and worth of every employee.
