The ideal timing for joining a test series depends on your syllabus coverage and the specific exam stage.
- For the Prelims, the best time is January or February, approximately four to five months before the exam. You should join once you have completed roughly 70% of the static syllabus. Starting too early can be discouraging due to low scores from a lack of knowledge, while starting too late leaves insufficient time to correct weaknesses. Early on, focus on "Sectional Tests" to master specific subjects, then transition to "Full-Length Mocks" in the final two months to refine your exam-day strategy and time management.
- For the Mains, there are two critical windows.
- First, a Foundation Phase (November–January) is useful for building basic answer-structuring skills while you study the core subjects.
- Second, the Intensive Phase begins immediately after the Prelims. This is when full-length mock tests are vital for developing the mental and physical stamina required to write twenty questions in three hours.
Ultimately, a test series is only as good as your analysis. You must dedicate at least double the exam time to reviewing your mistakes; otherwise, the exercise becomes a waste of time.
