UPPCS Exam Glossary of Terms & Acronyms
This glossary explains terms and acronyms used in the UPPCS 2026 notification and on these pages, from OTR and SBI MOPS to minimum efficiency standard, DFF, ODOP and the post names filled through the exam.

- UPPSC
- Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission, Prayagraj, which conducts the UPPCS exam.
- UPPCS
- Uttar Pradesh Provincial Civil Services, the common name for the Combined State / Upper Subordinate Services Examination.
- OTR
- One Time Registration on otr.pariksha.nic.in, mandatory before applying.
- SBI MOPS
- State Bank of India's Multi Option Payment System used for fee payment.
- e-Admission Certificate
- The online admit card issued by UPPSC.
- CSAT
- Civil Services Aptitude Test, the qualifying Prelims Paper II (33%).
- Negative marking
- Deduction of one-third of a question's marks for a wrong answer in Prelims.
- OMR
- Optical Mark Recognition answer sheet, issued in three copies (Pink, Green, Blue).
- Minimum efficiency standard
- Minimum marks needed to be placed in merit: 40% for General/OBC/EWS, 35% for SC/ST.
- SDM
- Sub-Divisional Magistrate, the field role of a Deputy Collector.
- DSP
- Deputy Superintendent of Police.
- BDO
- Block Development Officer.
- ARTO
- Assistant Regional Transport Officer.
- Naib Tehsildar
- Revenue officer assisting the Tehsildar at tehsil level.
- ODOP
- One District One Product, a UP scheme promoting a signature product in each district.
- DFF
- Dependents of Freedom Fighters of UP, a horizontal reservation category.
- EWS
- Economically Weaker Sections, a 10% vertical reservation for non-reserved candidates meeting income and asset limits.
- PwD / PH
- Persons with Disabilities of UP, eligible for 15 years' age relaxation and fee exemption.
- Creamy layer
- Higher-income OBC families excluded from OBC reservation.
- Horizontal reservation
- Reservation cutting across vertical categories, such as women, DFF, Ex-Servicemen and PwD.
- Viva-voce
- The interview or personality test (100 marks).
- CM Fellowship
- Chief Minister Fellowship Programme; research scholars get age relaxation and Mains weightage.
- GS V and GS VI
- The two UP-specific Mains papers.
- NOC
- No Objection Certificate required from employers of serving government employees at the interview.
